Skyshape MP3Resizer is a small and fast utility that will re-encode all your MP3 files into the bit rate of your choice. This useful tool will help you save loads of space in your MP3 player, allowing you to enjoy more music and more audio books with fewer resources. The bit rates supported range from 8 to 256 kbps.

The lowest bit rates (from 8 to 24 kbps) are very useful for re-compressing long audio books. For music a minimum 80 kbps bit rate is recommended, giving you a sufficient sound quality level and multiplying your disk space by three (when using 256 kbps MP3s as source files).

Probably the most useful utility included in this piece of software is the preview window. There you can listen to the original file, and then listen to 10-seconds previews of what the output file would sound like according to the bit rate selected. Thus, you can find the right balance between disk space and quality without needing to go through the whole conversion process.

The resizing process could not be simpler–open a full folder or select a few tracks, select a bit rate, and press “Resize!” Note that the bit rate selected will be applied to all the tracks in the screen. If you want to apply different bit rates to different folders you will need to resize each at a time.

MP3Resizer will open and resize any MPEG 1, 2, 2.5 Layer 1, 2 or 3 files. It also supports VBR MP3 files. Besides, all the information embedded in the file (ID3v1.1 and ID3v2 tags) will also be included in the output file.
